Adventures with Spiked Chai

In the heart of the Bronx, my wife and her colleagues decided to host an apartment crawl (we all live in the same building) that promised an evening of camaraderie, good vibes, and a dash of spirited adventure (read: alcohol). As the summer heat settled in, she envisioned an event that would not only bring our diverse group of friends closer together, but also awaken their taste buds to new, exciting flavors.

With each apartment required to have a specialty drink, it was then that she enlisted my help, the resident mixologist of our circle, to craft a drink that would be the highlight of the evening. 

Given my Chai obsession, my mind naturally drifted to thinking about what it would mix best would. Would something neutral, like Vodka, allow the masala to shine brightest? Or perhaps another layer of "oomph" would take it to another level. Enter Fireball Whisky + Spiced Rum!

The decision to infuse our chai with Fireball Whisky and Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum was driven by a desire to add a spirited twist to a classic comfort drink. Chai, with its rich blend of aromatic spices and soothing warmth, already possesses a certain charm. However, we wanted to elevate it into something memorable, something that would ignite conversation and create a unique experience for our guests during the apartment crawl.

Fireball's fiery cinnamon kick and Captain Morgan's spiced rum seemed like the perfect complements to the chai's already intricate flavor profile. The result was a delightful fusion of cultures and tastes, creating a chai that offered a cozy hug with a thrilling twist, making it an unforgettable addition to our event (and the perfect nightcap on future nights!). Recipe (Serves 1): 

2 Teaspoons Classic Masala Chai Mix
1 Cup Water
1 shot of Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum or Fireball Cinannamon Whisky
1/4 Cup Milk

Instructions:

1. Boil water, then add chai mix
2. Simmer for 3 minutes, then add milk
3. Bring the mix to room temperature, then add 1 shot of either Rum or Whisky. 
4. Enjoy!
